Elephant in the room
The success of 100% electric crew transfer hinges on robust offshore charging technology.
To that end, offshore charging specialist Charge Offshore has now successfully completed the factory acceptance test (FAT) for its 2MW-capable Aquarius Eco charging system – designed to deliver 100% emissions-free electricity to e-Ginny directly from offshore structures.
As part of the FAT, the entire system - made up of a ‘reeler’ and a ‘catcher’ - underwent rigorous mechanical function checks, stress tests, and electrical and control system verification to ensure they operate with the highest standards of safety, durability and reliability when out in the field.
The ‘reeler’: what may resemble an elephant on the factory floor will in fact be dwarfed by the sheer size of wind turbines reaching up to 250m high
The ‘catcher’: to be fitted to e-Ginny’s bow, which flares at the top to enable safer, hands-free connection while operating at sea
We can’t wait to show off how e-Ginny looks with the catcher installed - watch this space for further updates as we ebb closer to the finish line…
