Tidal Transit shortlisted for EEEGR Innovation Award 2025
Recognised for its pioneering work on the world’s first diesel-to-electric CTV retrofit, Tidal Transit been named a finalist in at the East of England Energy Group (EEEGR)'s End of Year Awards 2025. Shortlisted for the ‘Innovation’ category, the award celebrates the organisations and new, innovative technologies making the East of England a national and international leader in the energy sector.
Tidal Transit has worked with several partners and key suppliers to transform a long-serving, diesel-powered CTV into e-Ginny, a fully electric vessel with zero operational emissions. This major undertaking has spurred the development critical new technologies and processes vital for unlocking offshore electrification, including electric propulsion, marine batteries, battery storage and insulation, weight-saving measures and new hull designs, alongside critical shoreside and offshore charging systems.
With traditional CTVs typically consuming upwards of 1,500 litres of diesel daily, the transition to electrification will be vital for decarbonising the expanding offshore wind sector in the UK, Europe and emerging offshore markets like Australia, South Korea and the Philippines.
Ultimately, e-Ginny paves the way to a new approach to electrification and offers a practical example of how existing fleets can be upgraded to zero-emissions vessels without relying solely on new builds. With a scope much broader than e-Ginny herself, the innovative technologies and processes developed will help support electrification in the wider marine industry, and the valuable lessons learned are almost infinitely transferable to a wide range of applications and sectors.
Speaking about the shortlisting, Tidal Transit’s commercial director, Leo Hambro, said: “It’s fantastic to be recognised once again among so many impressive organisations working hard to secure the East of England’s position as an international renewable energy hub.
“Innovation sits at the heart of every we do, and e-Ginny represents a real tour de force for everyone involved as we continue to ‘Electrify Everything’. This nomination shows just what can be achieved when stakeholders from the across the industry collaborate to tackle long-standing challenges and bring fresh, innovative ideas from concept right through to fruition.”
The winners of the 2025 EEEGR End of Year Awards will be announced at the ceremony taking place at Dunston Hall on 4th December. You can learn more about the awards here.
